Being Thankful

This post is a smidge on the late side huh? I guess life swept me up again and carried me away!!

I started this post about being Thankful before Thanksgiving which is the day that EVERYONE in the blog world was posting about being thankful …. soooo to keep up the tradition of being a Griswold and an always Late Laura, here is my Thankful post!

I’m thankful this year for my husband and our second year of marriage. We made it yet another year in this hard hard world. I love you my super cute stinkapotamus!

I’m thankful for my wonderful family. This includes my husbands wonderful family as well. I have so many caring people in my life.

I’m thankful for the fact that I have a job, a car and a house. So many people in our country, state and town don’t have 1 or more of these things. Being that it is after Thanksgiving, I am now thankful for a wonderful family filled Thanksgiving holiday. It was awesome. I love all of you and wish we could have more days like that! Looking forward to Christmas!

I’m thankful that my cousins baby girl was born beautiful and healthy this year.

I’m thankful for the show “How I Met Your Mother” I just recently started watching this show and I LOVE it!

I’m thankful for friends close and far. You are all great and wish that everyone was close to me all the time. Thank you all for everything!

I’m thankful for “The Vampire Diaries” too and Ian Somerhalder – He’s hot!

I’m thankful for delicious dinners and TV shows with my teenager, once in a while she makes me feel young.

I’m thankful for girls days full of snacks and Twilight movies – Including Breaking Dawn which I am so thankful I was able to see it already.

So anyway… what are all of you thankful for this season and this non-thanksgiving Tuesday?

Happy Anniversary

Happy Anniversary to my husband. I love you! It’s been a great two years and a great 8ish before that!

All these years later and the little things still drive me crazy! (candy wrappers, stinky feet, hair in the sink, soda cans) But they are so worth all the great things you do. (love notes, vitamins, packing lunch, going to the store, waking me up)

I have said it before and I still feel it – we have a great thing! Sometimes we are off our game and things seem a little off but I always love you more than anything else! I love you and love everything you do for me!

I can’t wait for the rest of our life together my love!  Happy Anniversary!!

I sure do love that guy!! All his silly antics and his stinky ole socks included!

How many years have you been married? How’s married life?

Our Graveyard Date

It has been a looong time since Matt and I had a “date”. We haven’t been out just the 2 of us in quite some time.

This weekend with the teenager at a friends…we decided to head to St. Augustine. St, Augustine was founded in 1565 and is it is the oldest continuously occupied European-established city and port in the continental United States. There are many old and original buildings in the city. For example, it houses the oldest wooden school-house. There are tons of ghost stories that surround the buildings and cemeteries.

You can take multiple different ghost walks and tours around the city and learn where all the different sites are. It’s really cool! We have taken about 5 different walks over time and this time we decided to just walk around on our own and take pictures around town.

This post is just for fun. Look close at all our pictures and let me know of you see anything interesting or creepy!

Haunted Bed and Breakfast

Old Drug Store

Gravestone

Old Building - Now a Winery

When was your last date? Where did you go? See anything interesting in our pictures? Have you ever been to St. Augustine or any haunted cities?

Filter or no filter

I met Matt in 2003. At the time, the teenager was a cute chubby little 6yr old ball of fun. Like most children, she had no filter on her conversations. I sure did love that kid though and was quickly falling for her daddy too.

She's actually 9 in this picture..I didn't have a digital camera yet when I met her at 6yr old!

One particular day as we were all sitting around the house, that cute little squishy face asked me “When are you and my daddy gonna get married? “Was this adorable? Yes! Was it awkward as I sat there wide eyed, mouth agape trying to come up with an appropiate answer for a 7yr old? YES!!! I had only known Matt for a mere 4-5 months and I think marriage was the last thing on my mind. (His too considering we didn’t wed for 7 more years!)
I think Matt was appalled that she would even ask this question and for sure thought he would never see me again, what with my running for the hills and all. LOL!
I love kids though and have been around them my entire life and I know their minds and was in no way offended. It was awkward though!

Another wonderful time with little squishy face, involved her bringing up the dreaded “ex”. Oh yes my friends, this little ball of joy brought up the ex in such a manner that it was awkward for all involved. She simply wanted to know if her daddy remembered the time they did this with “her” and it caused complete silence to ensue. I’m no silly jealous girl though and wasn’t bothered by it all. I wasn’t silly enough to think Matt had no ex’s and that this little cutie had never had another woman in her life.

Me and the Teen years ago. (She made us get matching shirts!)

What is it about kids that cause them to say the worst things at the worst moment? We think they have no idea, but is this actually true. It seems more like they DO know exactly what they are doing and just like to see adults squirm!
All these years later that little squishy kid has grown into a beautiful teenager and guess what?? Still no filter! I cringe sometimes when we are conversing with strangers.

I sure do love her though with all my heart and soul, filter or no filter.

So tell me, do you kids have a filter? If so, how did you install it? If not, tell me about an awkward moment in time.

Trips to Walmart

If you have been reading my blog for any certain amount of time, you should know by now that I blog about anything and everything and sometimes even nothing. Today’s post is just for fun!

I was looking through some old pictures for a project I am doing and I noticed multiple trips to walmart and even one to Ikea where we had maybe a little too much fun while there. Let the pictures speak for themselves…..

This last one was a fun trip to Ikea. Roomie is a major goof!

So honestly, how would you react to seeing any of these things take place? I would be thinking – peopleofwalmart.com but alas, these are MY people of Walmart so I didn’t send the photos. That’s cheating! We do have fun though!

Yes, today is a mindless silly post, but, it’s Tuesday and sometimes Tuesday can be more of a drag than Monday! Oh, and I’m tired. It’s hard to not be silly when you’re tired!

Keep reading and maybe next time I will be witty! I have something in mind! Like this post and make sure to follow us – we LOVE followers!

Joys and Woes of aging

Over the past few months, much of our lives have revolved around age related things.

We started off with the teenagers birthday. Not much changed as she went from 14 to 15. She still the same wonderful teenager she was at 14. She has a little more knowledge and a little more maturity than she did this time last year. The year made a bit of difference but not a lot.

She's so beautiful!

We also celebrated my …. ahem…25th birthday. I sure love being in my 20’s! Ok, so I’m lying. I’m now 31. I think 30 is the actual age that you start to forget how old you are and you have to really THINK about it. I just did. I knew I wasn’t in my 20’s but how old am I? Oh riiighhttt…. ugh…31! I don’t usually feel 31 though so that’s a good thing – right?

Can anyone name the show this is from?

My baby cousin gave birth to her first child at the age of 20. She then turned 21. She was just a baby in my arms the other day and now I’m holding her daughter in my arms, 21 years later. This is actually the first time I held the baby of a baby I used to cuddle with years before. It’s surreal actually.

My grandmother passed away recently as well. It’s not the same rejoicing moment as a birthday or giving birth, but it does bring up age and aging. She was in her 80’s and to many, that’s a great long life. I have talked with older people before that feel 80 is quite an accomplishment. Her 90’s or even 100 would have been better. We would have had her with us that much longer. I miss her. In reality, I would not have even seen my grandmother in months. She doesn’t live near me and I only saw her once a year when she was here for her visit. But somehow, knowing you will never see someone again makes you miss them more, no matter what.

Love and Miss her!

My mommy turned 50 this month! The big five-oh! She took an awesome trip with my dad to California and got to do a lot of amazing things that she has always wanted to do. They went to “The Price is Right”, The Tonight Show, some great restaurants and saw some Hollywood sites. I’m glad she got to go and have an awesome time for her birthday! Happy Birthday Mommy and Thanks for the awesome gifts!

My mommy years ago.

My mommy and daddy just 1 year ago.

I don’t feel 31, I don’t think my mom feels 50, my husband doesn’t even know how old he is, my much younger baby cousin is having babies and the teenager is aging with rapid pace and soon to be off to college leaving us behind. So how much does age affect us on a daily basis? When exactly do you start to feel old? Or feel your age? I know I feel older than I did 10 years ago but in reality, not that much. So how much does age matter once you reach a certain point? This is a thought that changes with age. How ironic.

As a child you think age does matter and you want to be older so you can do all the cool stuff and stay up late.
As a teenager, it is much of the same thoughts with thoughts of boys mixed in and how the age difference shouldn’t matter.
Ages start to become less important in your 20’s and you don’t think age is such a big deal anymore.
Once you have children age plays a part in your life once again. Your babies are growing up and aging quickly, and with boys the age difference matters big time, when it comes to your teenager!
I haven’t figured out when it changes again. When does your thought process on aging change in life once again?

What do all of you think about age? Do you feel it? Does it matter to you? I rambled a lot in this post but that was the thought process in my head this morning. So – tell me what you think!

Texts from a drunken night

I was in Niagra Falls recently and it just so happened that my entire family (From my dad’s side) was going to be there. All of us together. This would be the first time in about 15 years. So yes, we had some fun.

The only members of my family missing happened to be my husband and the teenager who both stayed behind. Our 10 animals needed a babysitter and the teenager had school.

The point of this post is the fun of drunken texts. I had a little too much fun on our last night there while Matt was home having a little too much fun of his own. The two of us mostly communicated through texts and I want to share them with all of you.

Me: There are weirdos here!

Matt: I love you and I can’t feel my toes

Me: I live you top, Th toes/ my face!

Matt: Huh?

Later……

Me: Is everyone sloping ghetto

Me: In f**ked too. Since king 4birds age

So there is some of what was said between the two of us on this wonderous night! Drunk texting and auto correct do not mix. I wonder what it would have looked like without Autocorrect!

Do you have any great drunken texts? Send them our way! I’d love to compare. Plus…they make me laugh!

The Griswold Zoo saved the day!….again!

Hello! My new name is Red… as in Red Sox. It’s nice to meet you all!

Yes, that’s correct, we have a new family member. That would make animal number 10! Soooo have you figured out yet that we LOVE animals??

This particular animal was located in the wild. In our area this is unheard of. We do not have wild ferrets running around here. They are pets and you buy them or adopt them. This little girl was found by Matt while at work. She was running the town, running into the street and making a nuisance of herself.

If you do not know anything about ferrets then allow me to explain. Most ferrets (at least around here) originate at the pet store. They get them from a very large breeder – Marshalls. It is possible to obtain a ferret through a shelter or person but they are usually Marshall’s ferrets as well that someone didn’t want. It’s rare to see a non-Marshalls ferret. The ferrets come to the pet store spayed/neutered and sadly, tagged as well with a little ear tattoo. I know…it’s sad. People pay up to 120.00 dollars to adopt from the pet store so it was shocking to find this little girl running around in the wild.

Matt scooped her up right away with every intention of bringing her home to add to our brood. There was rumor of a second wild ferret but it was never located. Poor little Red was skinny and filthy. Once she was cleaned up, our brood of 3 took her right in as family. It was super cute.

Ferrets also mate with other ferrets. This match can be between any sex. They are all fixed so it’s more like a lifetime partner. You will usually read that you should have either 1 ferret or 3 or more, never just 2. If one of them dies then the odds of your second ferret dying are very high as they get depressed from the loss.

Anyway…our 3rd little ferret,  Sox, had no mate to speak of and he and Red joined up right off the bat and Sox has actually been much happier. We now have 2 sets of mated ferrets and 4 best friends.

I haven’t bonded in a special way with a ferret in a long time. We lost 3 ferrets all pretty close together about a year and a half ago. That left us with 2 and I wasn’t ready for more until Sox came along. Matt actually bonded more with Sox than I did. Little Red though, she changed my heart. I bonded with her right off and have since had some special moments with Sox as well.

I can officially say I have a special relationship with al 4 ferrets now and all 4 ferrets are happy and content. The Griswold Zoo saved the day once again!

Do you have ferrets? If so tell me about them! Any tips on ferrets or homes with many animals? I would love to hear about that too!

A small Griswold incident brought so many smiles

We were sitting on our front porch last night chatting and catching up with each other as we often do. Matt had a nice full cup of Pepsi from the gas station sitting on the table next to him.

I true Griswold fashion, as he went to sit, somehow at the perfect moment, his arm hit the cup and sent it falling downward. It slipped in between his bottom and the chair at precisely the right moment. It was too late to stop and his booty crushed the cup as it crashed down upon its delicate styrofoam body.

The result was a wet, sticky mess. Oh and also, Matt’s cute little bottom was soaked through with cold Pepsi.

So what lesson did we learn? Oh that’s right…that even in the simplest of times, we are Griswold’s and the laws of Griswold nature are that something will get you and you can never hide from the Griswold factor!
