Being Thankful

This post is a smidge on the late side huh? I guess life swept me up again and carried me away!!

I started this post about being Thankful before Thanksgiving which is the day that EVERYONE in the blog world was posting about being thankful …. soooo to keep up the tradition of being a Griswold and an always Late Laura, here is my Thankful post!

I’m thankful this year for my husband and our second year of marriage. We made it yet another year in this hard hard world. I love you my super cute stinkapotamus!

I’m thankful for my wonderful family. This includes my husbands wonderful family as well. I have so many caring people in my life.

I’m thankful for the fact that I have a job, a car and a house. So many people in our country, state and town don’t have 1 or more of these things. Being that it is after Thanksgiving, I am now thankful for a wonderful family filled Thanksgiving holiday. It was awesome. I love all of you and wish we could have more days like that! Looking forward to Christmas!

I’m thankful that my cousins baby girl was born beautiful and healthy this year.

I’m thankful for the show “How I Met Your Mother” I just recently started watching this show and I LOVE it!

I’m thankful for friends close and far. You are all great and wish that everyone was close to me all the time. Thank you all for everything!

I’m thankful for “The Vampire Diaries” too and Ian Somerhalder – He’s hot!

I’m thankful for delicious dinners and TV shows with my teenager, once in a while she makes me feel young.

I’m thankful for girls days full of snacks and Twilight movies – Including Breaking Dawn which I am so thankful I was able to see it already.

So anyway… what are all of you thankful for this season and this non-thanksgiving Tuesday?

But who is she……?

My husband and I started this blog together and planned to both blog and keep you entertained. I’m sure he will still decided to post a story or two on here but I have become the primary blogger. I realized that the “About” section is vague and thought maybe you want to know a little about me.

I’m in my 30’s and it only bothers me a little. They say you are only as old as you feel…. I always feel a different age. Sometimes I feel like a teenager and act like one too, but other times I wonder how I get around in this old body. It depends on the day.

I actually work a full-time, Monday – Friday job. It’s an interesting job with interesting people. I am still learning new things after almost 6 years.

I am also a student, not full-time because that would be impossible. I wish I were Superwoman but I’m not. I’m working on my AA and I take online classes. Yay!! I have about a year left and then plan to work toward a Bachelor’s in the same way.

I’m not crazy about where I live. It’s hot, we have no seasons and never get snow. I’ve lived here my whole life and surrounded by family, yet I feel a strong pull toward another area of our map. Sigh..maybe someday.

I don’t have any biological children. I do have the teenager though, she’s my child. We’ve been together forever and the only thing that seems to be missing from our relationship is all that pesky blood and DNA. I’ve watched her grow and taken care of her through the years so she’s mine! Blood be damned!

I do want more children though, biological or not. I want another child. I can’t wait for another child in the house. It gets to a point that is hard to even explain. It almost hurts. It’s a difficult thing to “try” to have a baby. It’s painful and stressful for everyone. It’s a difficult road. I may blog about it someday soon.

I’m not very girly, but I do love pink. I rarely wear heels and have no dresses. I have some specific confidence issues and as of today, my hair is too long. I love animals and children and pasta is the best!

I LOVE chocolate but if given the choice, I’d choose a Jolly Rancher. I’m a couch potato a lot of the time and it appears as if my bottom is starting to pay the price. I love lip gloss and watermelon and even watermelon lip gloss.

I hate spiders, needles, vomit or vomiting! Ugh… three biggest fears right there! I hate most veggies, and meatloaf too. Football bores me and so does golf although I love to play Mario Golf!

Is there anything else you want to know? Ask away and I’m happy to answer!

A Mystery Comedy Dinner Show

So, the teenager turned 15 this past week. It’s a pretty big milestone. Where we live, at 15, you can get a learner’s permit, you’re usually a sophomore in High School, and you’re half way to 30! So it’s a pretty big day!
We asked her what she wanted to do for her birthday and she decided that she wanted to go with 2 of her friends to a dinner theater.
We have a few good ones near us and they are all a lot of fun. We decided to go to Sleuth’s Mystery Dinner Show, which is also a comedy.

All 5 of us loaded up for a night of fun and food. It really was a lot of fun. You have a little food, watch some of the show, eat some more while discussing with your table who the murderer might be, then you watch a little more, ask some questions of the actors and then you get to eat dessert while the show concludes. It’s really very organized and a lot of fun!

We called ahead of time and told them that our teenager was coming for her birthday and do they do anything special. We ordered a cake and they told us they sing to all birthdays, give a little gift and of course the cake we ordered too.

The girls had a great time and so did the parents! We all loved it. The actors and the show was hilarious, the food was pretty good too and the staff was really excellent.

If you have or will become a tourist in the Orlando area then you should set a night to go to the Sleuth’s dinner theater. I promise you will love it!

It was a fun night and nothing Griswoldesk happened to any of us.

Happy Birthday to the Teenager!

What did you do for your last birthday? Or your child’s last party?

Happy 4th of July

The 4th of July is a big deal at our house. It’s not just America’s birthday. We celebrate family too. The Armstrongs have always had a large 4th of July and Matt and I continue the tradition. This year was great just like all the others. Besides the fact that the family babies were not always pleased with our show of lights, it was a very non-griswoldesk kind of year. Somehow, not one thing went wrong! It’s an AMAZING feat to acomplish and we pulled it off this year! We’re proud!

We spend the day having fun, eating, playing ball, and jumping around!

As the night sets in we like to sit around watching the fireworks. We do our own, at home, in the driveway.

Sometimes we take pictures and video of the really good ones.

During and after the show of lights, we like to be goofy, have fun, have some drinks and hang out with friends and family.

There is nothing quite like the smell of the 4th of July. It’s smoke, bug spray, charcoal and hot dogs. I’m sure it’s not a great marketing idea for a candle but it smells great on the 4th. It’s the smell of summer, family gatherings, delicious foods and simple fun.

How was your 4th? Tell us about it!

My Mom’s Salsa

My mom has a delicious Salsa recipe.
She makes her salsa for parties, pot lucks, and family gatherings.
It’s sooo delicious!!
Everyone loves it!
She taught me how to make it this weekend. I went to her house with all my ingredients and she taught me how to make it.
I’ve been eating salsa for days!
I may have put on some weight, but I sure did enjoy it!!
The recipe is semi secret as she made sure to tell me.
I wish I could tell you but if everyone made it, then it wouldn’t be my moms and it wouldn’t taste as good!
